Taking people at face value is at best a show of trust and confidence. And at worst, a recipe for disaster. What happens when you ask them if they can do something and they say they can and it turns out they can’t? If you’re talking to a window cleaner or a landscaping company the likelihood is, with respect to those who perform those functions, that there will be no great consequence. But if you hire and entrust a real estate professional to coordinate the sale of your biggest financial investment. . . if you choose poorly, the results can be catastrophic. The wrong choice can cost you time and money. So who are you really hiring?
You're Only As Good As Your Last Performance
Heidi & Adam Friesen: It only takes once to learn that going to someone that hasn't been recommended to you usually comes with a consequence. Having learned that lesson, my husband and I didn't want to put our 'first home' purchase to that test. As we are both very analytical people (he's an engineer and I'm an accountant), we wanted to do most of our own homework (scoping out areas and open houses) on our own, at our own pace and without the pressure. It was the better part of a year between when we first met Mike and when we actually went out with him for the first time to look at houses together. During that year, my husband and I were able to acutely define the area we wanted to live in, as well as what our needs and wants were for our first home. As such, there were only about ten homes that met our criteria for us to look at that day and Mike was prompt to pointing out the pros and cons of each home during our visit. Each of those homes missed the mark for one reason or other, but Mike had already scoped out one last home within our search criteria for us to look at before our day came to an end. And of course, it was 'the 10/10 house' and we were writing up the offer with Mike the very next morning. He walked us through each step of the home-buying process so that we could make our conditions for a quick possession. We are very happy and proud of our purchase and have Mike to thank for helping to make it happen. We would recommend Mike to anyone who asks - 'who was your REALTOR®?
Stephan & Tonya: Mike provided excellent service and was extremely helpful throughout the entire home buying process. From our first meeting he was open and friendly, making working with him very easy while maintaining a professional decorum. His ability to help us define our buying criteria and keeping us focused on them greatly helped the first home buying process. We felt that Mike was very personable, knowledgeable, and went well beyond the standard level of service. His assistance was greatly appreciated and we look forward to working with him again in the future. We highly recommend him.
Todd Deis & Jodi Reilly: After an exhausting and draining experience with a previous REALTOR® over a three month period that left us quite sceptical of the industry in general, dealing with Mike was a breath of fresh air. In taking on the sale of our now-vacant property, he provided us with a concise and realistic evaluation of the current market, honest feedback and excellent advice about our pricing situation and the timing of a potential sale. He always exhibited a high degree of professionalism in dealing with us as well as other REALTORS®. He showed his exceptional negotiating skills when we were presented with two competing offers, and within a very short amount of time, had garnered an additional $10,000 over the best offer. We ended up with an unconditional and final offer in writing within 12 hours. Mike took a lot of the stress out of selling our home and we would highly recommend him to anyone considering buying or selling a property in Calgary
Tyler & Sarah: Our experience with Mike, from the time we first sat down together to the time he handed us the keys to our new home, made purchasing in Calgary a luxurious endeavour in comparison to our expectations. We went from uneasy to confident and it didn’t take long to find a place to call our home. We have recently settled in Calgary from out-of-province, and as first time buyers we were unaware of the many procedures involved with purchasing a new home. Before starting our search with Mike, the challenge of finding the right neighbourhood, at the right price, seemed like an overwhelming prospect. Mike made targeting and buying that great new home into a science and before long we were choosing between several perfect matches. I would recommend Mike de Jonge as a real estate agent to any of my friends or family. He is a true professional.
Katherine & Andre: Mike was a pleasure to work with. His professionalism, cheery personality and exemplary negotiation skills made the sale of our two properties quite successful despite an extremely difficult marketplace. We will unfortunately not be using Mike to purchase our next home as we are relocating across the country but have joked that we would take him with us if we could. Thank you Mike for your assistance and friendship!
